The strong and mighty ISD-II
Allegiance exited hyperspace in middle orbit over the frozen planet of Ilum. Although it seemed with the recent expansion to Hoth that Hale was bored of ice worlds, Ilum's vacancy was ripe for expansion and presented a unique opportunity for the Imperial Remnant to move in a different direction.
While those in the upper echelons of Imperial Command debated with Hale over his next move after the successful Endor operations, many were yet convinced that expanding to Ilum was the best course of action, as it was afterall at the edge of space and held no tactical value whatsoever. Yet Hale knew a war was coming, a war that would require strategic positioning more than resources or credits. Ilum was relatively close to the Core, yet far enough away that it would remain in the shadows and allow Hale to use its remote location to his advantage. This of course was the
official report that Hale gave to High Command, but the unofficial reasons were even more important... Ilum's ancient Jedi ruins and crystal caves.
The move to Ilum was therefore made out of a personal motivation to allow Jana to explore the Light Side and the Jedi Way. Since everything connected to the Jedi Order was obliterated during the rise of the Galactic Empire, the only planet left untouched was Ilum - since it had already been previously ransacked during the Clone Wars by the CIS - and many "experts" concluded that the decades of snow and ice would whiteout anything connected to the lost Order. Hale was no expert in the Force, but knew that somehow that the biggest galactic events were swayed by the influence of those who wielded it, and thus supporting Jana's exploration into the Force would be necessary to combat the galaxy's biggest threat...the Sith Empire.
As the
Allegiance steadied up position in middle orbit, Commodore Balan West placed the battlegroup on green alert status. No presence in the system was detected, and nor was there any reason for a presence to be expected since Ilum had long since been abandoned and left barren. Hale had given orders to Commodore West to secure a position on the ground before beginning the archaeological expedition, and so to that end, starfighters were deployed for patrol duties and landing barges to the surface along with a prefabricated Fleet Depot. In addition to the construction operations, the newly trained Stormtroopers would use the icey planet to conduct training and survival exercises to keep their skills sharp.
Ever since Endor, Jana had kept to herself and was even more introverted than normal, and for the past month had been sleeping alone. She had yet to open herself up to Hale and talk about her experiences and feelings, something which was bothering Hale, something which he would do about...
After making his way through the ship, Hale knocked on Jana's quarters, which was met with no answer.
Again, he knocked, this time buzzing the doorbell. No response.
The third time, Hale typed in his command override code to the door and walked in.
"Jana, it's me Lucidius."
Jana seemed upset that Hale had barged in, "what are you doing here?"
"Hey. We've arrived at Ilum. You asked me to come and get you when the trip was over, remember?"
"Oh... right," replied Jana, who began crawling off her couch still half asleep.
"Look, I know you've been keeping to yourself, but I'm worried about you. Can we talk?"
"What is there to talk about? I'm just a weak and broken woman and you're here to rescue me," she said sarcastically. "Isn't that how our relationship began in the first place? You get to play leader, tow me around, fuck me, and then unleash me on the battlefield. Am I just some weapon you're grooming to use against the Sith Empire? Isn't that why we're really here?"
"Whoa, Jana... listen..." Hale tried to explain himself, but Jana cut him off again.
"No! You listen! I'm tired of playing your damsel in distress. I'm tired of the games. You and I both know I could take over the Imperial Remnant with one fell swing of a lightsaber, so spare me your encouragement and talk of the greater good. I was genetically engineered to be the perfect woman remember? So spare me the therapy. Just leave me alone..."
"Do you even hear yourself?" asked Hale. "This is ridiculous. You know that I love you. I want what's best for you."
"Love me? Oh you love me alright. You love the fact that I make you feel more powerful. You love it that you have the most beautiful woman in the galaxy sleeping with you. Just face it Lucidius, you love me because I'm a trophy. And somehow what's best for
me conveniently ties into your master plan for the Imperial Remnant!"
"What's gotten into you Jana? A couple months ago on Hoth we couldn't have been closer to each other. Now it seems you have some thirst for power that can only be quenched by destroying everything around you so you can proove to yourself that you can wield the Dark Side! I know I'm no expert on the Force, but this path you're walking is tearing us apart."
"Maybe that's what is best for us, Lucidius. To be apart..."
"Jana, you can't be serious?! We're supposed to be together."
"Are we? The King and Queen of the Imperial Remnant?! Is our relationship just some fantasy romance or the real deal?"
Hale shook his head and then passionately embraced Jana and began kissing her. Immediately Jana's mood brightened up, "I was wondering when you'd shut me up," she continued. Not saying a word, Hale began undressing Jana and eventually forced her back to the bedroom...
