Victory-II Star Destroyer Maleficent
Fleet of the Sith Empire
Lider Algoz, Dark Lord of the Sith
Shan Oradin, Ambassador
Conquest Mission
The decks of the
Dreshdae were relatively quiet. Ambassador Shan Oradin, of Brentaal IV, toured the lower decks to see the brave men who had enlisted from her home world. She entered the barracks and congratulated her men on their recent success at Bandomeer. Spirits were high, this being the third victory for the men since Brentaal IV had rejoined the Empire. Soldiers lined up to kiss the hand of the Ambassador in a show of respect for the heiress. Shan was not a faceless bureaucrat to the men. Her family was among the most prominent in the Brentaal System and she was often the focus of the media.
"Thank you, my brothers, for your service. You bring great honor to Brentaal IV. Each victory elevates us in prominence and secures stations of importance within the greater Empire. You make us very proud." The men cheered as she raised her hand in solute before leaving the room. She could still hear their celebration as she reached the end of the hall and boarded the elevator.
"Ugh," she exclaimed to her servants.
"I can not wash this hand soon enough! Have we received any acknowledgement yet from Darth Algoz?" Her servant answered in the negative with a silent shake of the head.
"We must secure a meeting with him. I don't know how much longer I can take this patriotic nonsense!" The tour had not been of her own design, but that of her father. Carr Oradin understood the importance of having the peoples support. He had arranged for Shan to tour the growing Empire and meet with their people. It was more a campaign than a show of goodwill. Shan, however, continued to see the men as beneath her and not of her station. She cringed at the thought of mingling with the lower class to elevate her own station. Meeting with those of higher station and importance,
that is what she believed best.
A
chirp came from one of her servants pockets. The young girl reached in and pulled out a small holo-transmitter, then activated it. The image of an Imperial Officer appeared.
"Greetings, Ambassador Oradin. I am Lieutenant Daxx. Darth Algoz wishes to meet with you. Report to Infirmary-223 immediately." The transmission ended before she was able to even respond.
The insolence, she thought. Biting her tongue, she nodded to her servant. The girl keyed the elevator pad for the new destination.
The Ambassador and her entourage entered the med-bay and found the Dark Lord in the center of the room. He stood still, his head down, eyes closed, and fingers steepled under his chin. Five beds circled him with five maimed soldiers upon them.
"You wish to speak with me, Ambassador?" "I do, my Lord. I wish only to congratulate you on your victories and to pledge my service to you as elected official of Brentaal IV." He chuckled to himself.
"And what use do I have for elected officials?" "Even the late Emperor understood the importance of having an elected government behind you." She stepped forward.
"Did you not promise such as part of your negotiations with Governor Maclain? You would find more power in a people who worship you than in a people who only fear you." He smiled and opened his eyes. They were deeply sunk in and ashen. He appeared drained.
"You speak without fear, little girl. This is encouraging. I do have use for you. Go to the surface and oversee the completion of our palace. Speak before the people, appear on the channels, and rally them in support of my Empire." Her face grew pale.
"To the surface?" Her voice nearly cracked with anger.
"This world has no class system! You would ask me to walk among peasants..." He reached out with his right hand and gripped the air, quickly silencing her decent.
"Yes, I would have you go to the surface of Bandomeer. I would have you walk among ore haulers and miners and have a lesson in humility!" He released her from his grasp. She collapsed to the floor and clutched her throat.
Looking up through strands of curly blonde hair, she replied shakily,
"By your command, my Lord." She rose to her feet and turned to leave. Darth Algoz closed his eyes and returned to his meditation. Only then did she realize what he was doing.
"Your Empire expands in the wrong direction. Turn your attention to the south and see your bacta tanks restored to full." She exited the med-bay, her servants following behind. The Dark Lord opened one eye and watched her leave.
