[^] AVENGER SQUADRON [^]
1st IMPERIAL EXPEDITIONARY FORCE
PRIMUS ET OPTIMUS ~ THE FIRST AND THE FINEST
Commanding Officer: LCDR Lucidius Hale

*

"Sir, the Bob task force has exited hyperspace, bearing 060 mark 120, sector B2," remarked a young ComScan officer.

"Excellent, I was beginning to wonder if we were the only ones going to show up. Let's go ahead and kick things into gear. Tactical officer, I want an update immediately," ordered Hale.

The tac-O replied, "yes sir, we are communicating with the ground forces right now. Sir they are outnumbered 5 to 1, but the AT-ATs are holding the line, as they have moved against the VNSD Mandalore..."

"Well played. They're going to scare it back into space..." pondered Hale.

"That's the idea sir. And we'll be ready for them. The Mandalorians apparently kept all of their Basilisks stowed away in their bulk cruisers, which means the AT-ATs below will definitely hold the line. It's unlikely we'll need to render any direct assistance, unless the situation gets much worse."

"Excellent. So the Mandalore is stuck. Damned if it stays on the ground, damned if it enters space. What are the odds the MLA Fleet are going to pull out and run?"

"Unlikely sir, running away is the same as defeat. In true Mandalorian fashion they'd probably rather die on the battlefield."

"Very well," Hale paused for a moment. His next few orders would make the difference in this battle as he was in prime position to push his fleet into the fray. "Alright, we didn't come here to spectate. Let's move in and keep it tight. Warships aren't made to look pretty and polished, so let's get some scraps and dents gentlemen," pandered Hale, obviously trying to show everyone he was confident to enter battle.

The Chandrila, the Warhawk and the Highlander engaged their sublight drives and pushed forward, entering Yavin's lower orbit. From this key tactical position, they'd be able to engage the MLA Fleet and intercept the Mandalore if it decided to make a run for it, which everyone hoped it would. Taking out the MLA command ship would certainly turn the tides.

"Alright gentlemen, let's triage the threats here: enemy starfighters are the top target, those StarVipers are nasty, so we need to take them out first. Second is the Mandalore, whether it runs or not. Last are those bulk cruisers. They may have limited firepower but they're a pain in the ass to kill, so let's not waste any time with them unless we have to," reasoned Hale.

"Yes sir," replied the bridge crew.

At that, the strike orders went out: Avenger Squadron began firing on the MLA fighters while the fleet's TIEs hung back to remain on defense. Auxiliary craft were launched and immediately flooded the Atmosphere, attacking the lone StarViper squadron patrolling those skies. Hale decided to keep his TIE Bombers stowed away until a devastating strike package could be delivered. Although Chandrila's upgraded shipyard afforded him the capability to produce Escort Carriers to increase his fleet's starfighter capacity, Hale was limited in his resources and couldn't afford any yet.

"Well done gentlemen, let's keep it simple from here on out."

Jason watched as the imperial forces quickly made for the ground taring into the mandalorian positions. The efficiancy of the attack was a sight to behold indeed.

"Open a channel to that lead battle group."
"Roger sir, channel open."

Com: "Imperial Battle Group, this is Lt Cmdr Jason Starhammer of the New Republic Expeditionary Force Alpha. We have the Mandalorians escape path cut off, happy hunting gentlemen. We stand by to offer any needed assistance with the ground forces. Starhammer out."

"Well that was a bit more cordual then I think they are used to sir."
"Perhaps, but we are in no shape to engage an imperial armada head on, and I want to make sure these mandalorians dont get to continue this crusade. Move us into position to be of assistance, but not so close as we cant get out in a hurry if they decide they dont want us here."
"Aye aye sir."

"Move the line into firing range.  Fire Control, it would appear the insurgents are attempting to steal Imperial property.  Discourage them."

"Sir.  All batteries, target lead Cruiser and fire at will.  Repeat, weapons free."

"Sir," said Captain Qur, the disdain evident in his voice.  "Not to question your months of combat experience or the wisdom possessed by an officer fresh from the academy, but what of the rebel forces on the edge of the gravity well?"

"Rebels are rebels.  These are closer.  Don't worry, Captain, we'll get to them soon enough."

FLASHPOINT GM-NPC POST

Flashpoint Recap
With the Imperial Fleet pressing back on the Mandalorians, their Warpath has effectively been stunted, as their ships at space are being attacked, and their ground units (without proper GAV) support now must stand up to AT-ATs. Do the Mandalorians have a trick up their sleeve? Or will they be destroyed? Though facing defeat in space, their successes on the ground seem to be looking up...into the sky where some possible reinforcements would perhaps swing the tides of war.

<> <> <>

Mandalorian Liberation Army
Onboard the NSBC Slayer...
"Captain, the Imperial task force off our bow is moving in!"

"Standby for attack!" replied the CO. The Slayer, along with the other three bulk cruisers flanking it anticipated this response, but Bulk Cruisers were no match for Imperial ships of the line. The ship commanders and other military strategists within the MLA knew an attack on an Imperial base would not be successful without additional reinforcements, but Mao'lo wanted to move immediately after acquiring the Mandalore on the black market. Now, the MLA's haste would be their weakness.

The ship rocked from the incoming fire.

"Captain shields are buckling... shit.. we just lost them!"

 "Damage report!" shouted the CO.

"All systems operational. No internal damage. Captain, we won't be able to sustain these attacks much longer!" replied the XO.

"Dammit! We don't have enough firepower either! Concentrate all attacks on that Strike Cruiser, and let's see if we can't pick it off!" As the CO's orders went out, the Slayer and the other MLA Bulk Cruisers returned fire, concentrating it on the Firestorm. The starfighters and aux craft also moved in to attack, hoping to inflict as much damage as possible.

Meanwhile, on the ground...
While the VNSD Mandalore loomed over the battlefield like a proud mountain, five AT-ATs emerged from the Yavin jungles to challenge it. The decision of the Imperial Base commander to deploy the walkers against the Mandalore instead of directly defending the Depot marked a critical turning point in the battle, as the Mandalore now faced incredible danger.

Mao'lo contacted the Mandalore and had it begin lifting off to enter the atmosphere. It had done its job of delivering the troops, now it was needed more in space, where it could perhaps stand up against the Imperials. The decision was also made to bring both the Slayer and the Titan to the surface, so some fresh units could be brought to bare.

The rest of the MLA infantry continued their offensive, hoping to wager all to destroy the Depot...

Imperial Base Forces
"Haha! Look at that fat pig fly!" remarked the Base CO, observing the Mandalore lift off and enter the atmosphere. Clearly his ploy to use the AT-ATs to move against the ship worked, as it was now retreating. Unfortunately, the rest of the Mandalorian infantry was brutalizing the Depot compound as all of this was transpiring.

"Sir! Mandalorians have breached the base! Also, two Bulk Cruisers have entered the atmosphere... they're reinforcements no doubt..."

"Right, send out the evacuation order. Contact the task forces in space, we're going to need immediate ground support. Those AT-ATs will buy us enough time!"

 "Yes sir!" replied the XO.

Once the evacuation order got sent out, it was almost too late. The Stormtroopers defending the base fought valiantly, but the sheer numbers of the opposing forces were too much to handle, as they were all gunned down - but not before taking some down with them.

The command staff were the only personnel remaining, as the enlisted staff working on the lower levels of the facility were also killed. The command staff managed to take a hidden underground tunnel and work their way into the Yavin jungles and eventually into some Massassi ruins, where they hoped to wait the battle out and relay any visual intelligence to the space forces above. Though for the most part, it seemed the Imperial ground forces had been beaten...

1st IMPERIAL EXPEDITIONARY FORCE
PRIMUS ET OPTIMUS ~ THE FIRST AND THE FINEST
Commanding Officer: LCDR Lucidius Hale

*

Hale sat calmly in his command chair, monitoring the development of the battle. With the entrance of the Bob task force, the situation got much better, as even though some Rebels offered their assistance, Hale was confident the Imperial forces present had everything under control. Though the ground battle wasn't going so well, Hale remembered one of his Academy professors say 'he who controls the space, controls the ground' when it came to siege assaults. Soon, the MLA Fleet would soon be destroyed and all that would remain would be the shattered helmets of thousands of Mandalorian soldiers in the jungles below.

"Commander Hale, the rest of the squadron has just arrived!" announced the ComScan officer.

"Excellent, have them standby and await orders!" replied Hale, who was now turning his attention to the rest of the MLA forces, who apparently were performing a shift move, as the Mandalore and 2 Bulk Cruisers entered the atmosphere. "So they think they can win this battle on the ground, don't they?" Hale paused for a moment to ponder the MLA's next move. Clearly, they were going to drop Bulk Cruisers to the surface if they faced too much punishment in space, which meant that the ground battle would be where the decisions would be made. Hale nodded to himself in agreement of his assessment of the battle. "Alright, listen up. The Mandalorians seem to be focusing their attention on the ground, which means they're wagering everything to achieve victory down there. Those AT-ATs can buy us some time, but not if they get Basilisks to reinforce their forces."

"So what do we do sir?" asked a young bridge officer.

"Prepare to launch our ground forces by dropship. We need to hold the line in space. I don't want the Mandalore to reach orbit! Target all MLA ships in the atmosphere. Nothing reaches the surface!" ordered Hale.

"Yes sir! Locking all weapons now. Strike packages have been sent to the rest of the fleet... TIE Bombers deploying now..."

Within minutes, green and red laser bolts began streaking through space and into the atmosphere, impacting the MLA Fleet with vengeance. Unfortunately for them, their atmospheric entry limited their maneuverability, making them easy targets for the well-trained enlisted gunners.

FLASHPOINT GM RULING
Because the VNSD Mandalore and the NSBC Titan were DISABLED in the ATMOSPHERE they no longer have sufficient power to overcome the gravitational forces of Yavin IV, and thus, have fallen to the ground and have been totaled. Onboard units and crews survive (and will soon join the ground battle), but the ships are destroyed. The kills will be credited to GCW Hale.

CLARIFICATION & NOTICE

1. From the rules:
Quote
TIE Swarms
Capable of being formed when (3) TIE Fighter and/or TIE Interceptor Squadrons are present in the same grid. A swarm makes the (3) units into (1) in order to increase its damage tolerance and intimidation (simply combine armor point values and damage, as if it were one large squad). TIE Swarms follow all normal rules for Starfighter combat and are treated as one unit. Regardless of the type of TIE, the Swarm's UCR is 8.

Essentially, TIE Swarms are "1 big squad", so if 1 TIE Fighter squad has 144 HP and takes that much damage, it blows up. But if a TIE Swarm takes 144 damage, it still is able to function as 3 squads combined. That's one of the benefits of having a TIE Swarm, because it forces the enemy to deal all the damage at once if they want it destroyed (in this case, the damage was dealt by StarVipers - which are badass).

2. XCAL, be sure to check your math for combat calculations. The Firespray Patrol Ships have a UCR of 5, which means your STRKs can do 100% damage (since they also are UCR 5), but DREADs cant. From the rules:
Quote
Universal Combat Rating: Because units come in different shapes and sizes, or have certain traits which differentiate them from other units, this game relies on a rating system to quantify those qualitative differences in how units combatitively interact with one another.  A unit's given UCR value is calculated by adding a its speed + maneuverability.  In practice, UCR works like this: damage inflicted upon a unit is multiplied by the UCR quotient between it and its attacker.  In any scenario when the attacker's UCR is greater than the defender's, the attacker deals 100% damage (never more).

Example.
Attacker's UCR = 4, Attacker's Raw Damage vs Defender = 500
Defender's UCR = 7
The Raw Damage of 500 is multiplied by (4/7) or 0.571, so in this case the Refined (Total) Damage comes out to be 285.5 which is rounded up (explained below) to 286.

In your case, it would have looked like this:

DREADs have a UCR of 3.
FIRESPRAYs have a UCR of 5.

Your DREAD does 60% damage to the Firesprays because 3/5 = 0.6, so for future reference, use the following formula:

(Attacker UCR / Defender UCR) = Damage Modifier
(Raw Damage x Modifier) = Refined Total Damage

When Attacker's UCR is greater than the Defender's, the Modifier = 1.

My bad, I didn't see the Firesprays on the target list so I just threw some numbers up.  I'll modify things later.  That clears things up for the Swarms though.

Yeah unfortunately Greg hasn't been around to "finalize" all those bonus apps yet, so I've been doing everything manually because it makes me feel more old school. =)

FLASHPOINT GM-NPC POST

Flashpoint Recap
Now that the Empire has struck back, the MLA seems to be fighting this battle on two sides of a double-edged sword. On the ground, their army has all but claimed victory, as it seems that a handful of AT-ATs are the only thing standing in the way of total domination on the battlefield. In space however, the MLA fleet has been dealt a critical blow, in that their battle power has been mitigated by the presence of two Imperial task forces. As the battle rages on though, time will tell who the real winners and losers are...

<> <> <>

Mandalorian Liberation Army
In Space...
The MLA fleet tried to push back, having been dealt a serious blow by the Bob task force. Counter-attacks were launched, as once again the 'lead' Strike Cruiser became the primary target, in addition to the Chandrila on the opposing side of space.

In the Atmosphere...
As the mighty MLA command ship ascended into the atmosphere in an attempt to flee the firepower of the AT-ATs below, it was met instead with the firepower of an Imperial task force. Despite being a risky proposition, the Mandalore had to at least try and make it into space, where it could have perhaps survived long enough to perform hyperspace calculations and make a run for it - saving the Mandalorian Warpath for another day, but it would be the end of the line for the Mandalore. In a desperate attempt to fight back, the Mandalore and the Titan were able to get a final round of shots off before succumbing to Imperial firepower...

"Captain, we're taking critical damage!" shouted the deck officer, who was speaking to the 'official' commanding officer of the Mandalore - Captain Kizer, a man given the job by General Mao'lo, as the eccentric MLA leader preferred to have an actual naval officer handle the day-to-day operations of the Mandalore.

 "Damage report!"

"Hull breaches on decks... everywhere. We're fucked..." ? As soon as the deck officer finished his report, a fresh Imperial salvo impacted the ship again, this time cracking the ship's armor and incinerating the insides of the vessel. The damage was so extensive that the Mandalore's primary reactor was damaged, effectively shutting down the ship, as lights and computers began to flicker on and off until finally, there was darkness...

Emergency power generators kicked online and red lights ignited, providing the hapless crew with enough light to do what had to be done next...

"Captain, auxiliary power online! We've lost sublight..."

"Sound the collision alarm! We're going to be making a rough landing!"

On the ground...
General Mao'lo and the rest of the Liberation Army looked up into the skies, seeing the destruction taking place. Both the Mandalore and the Titan had fallen prey and were plummetting towards the earth, albeit in a 'controlled descent/crash landing' sort of way. Mao'lo couldn't believe his eyes. The Mandalore was in fact one of the toughest warships in the galaxy, but alas, tough enough for the Clone Wars didn't exactly make a ship tough enough for the Galactic Civil War.

As the Mandalore and the Titan finally hit the ground, explosions from both ships erupted, but fortunately, because both ships had not fully been dicentegrated in the atmosphere, the crews and additional support troops, who were also being reinforced by the Slayer's contingent, marched their way to the MLA battleline and joined ranks - bolstering the ground army even further than expected.

The newfound troops turned their attention on the only things standing in their way of total dominance - blowing up the Depot and bringing down the AT-ATs. Both tasks seemed all too easy now that the fearsome Basilisk Wardroids, piloted by single Mandalorian warriors, openly engaged the AT-ATs in a vicious firefight...

Imperial Base Forces
From the ruins of a Massassi temple, the Base CO and whoever was left of the command staff got a glimpse of the destruction in the atmosphere. Their cheers were quiet and muddled, as they didn't want to reveal their position, but their excitement was there nonetheless. Hopefully, the battle would be over soon and they could return to duty. What kind of duty though would have to be decided later, as they were also able to observe the Depot finally blowing up, and the rest of the MLA infantry fighting...

Onboard AT-AT Walker 1
"Colonel, holoscans are showing a surge in enemy troops, they're everywhere!"

"Standby... open a comm signal to the squad."

 "Open, sir."

"Walker squad, this is Colonel Sears, hold your ground! We have reinforcements in the atmosphere on their way, so I repeat: we must stand our ground until they land! This battle is not over!"

With that, the Walkers got into a tighter formation, concentrating their firepower on the newly arrived Basilisk Wardroids, which were incredibly viable threats.

OOC Note: You dont have neutral stuff in the space calculator!!! Im gunna have to do this by hand so bare with me, I need you to go and re-check all my math hale. Also I assume those firesprays are with the mandalorian fleet. Please correct me if im wrong. Also, modified my damage, it really only gives me enough to kill one extra, which isnt worth my redoing the status for, they are just firesprays and the bulk of them are tractor locked in A-4. So we will just call it big overkill, and I give you a thanks for pointing out the oversight. I will note it for future reference. You should update the Space Calculator as it lists the NSBC as UCR 2.

"Sir, the imps seem to be getting pounded on the ground. If they dont do something soon they are gunna lose the planet. I almost feel sorry for em."
"Any reply to our message?"
"None sir, they seem to be ignoring us completely."
"Sir, message comming in from RP. They have been monitoring our systems and watching the situation, they order you to take out as many imperial forces as possible, they will try and deal with the mandalorians diplomatically after they remove the imperials from this world."
"They can not be serious!? They of all people should know the mandalorians only respond to brute force. Their diplomats will be slaughtered."
"The message is confirmed sir."
"Absolutely not, I will not take that shot, if we are to engage the imperials here it will be by THEIR choice. I did a dissertation in the academy on the mandalorians, none of them get out of this system! We will have many opportunities to engage the imps, and with much better odds. For now, move us in and see if you can strip out some of their fighter cover. Perhaps we can open the door to let the imps handle this themselves. Open a channel to that lead dreadnaught."

Com: "Imperial battle group, this is Lt Cdr Jason Starhammer, we will open the door, you guys get your troops to the ground. We stand by with 420 squads of rebel marines too aid in your ground actions if you should so request them. The mandalorians are a threat we can all respect, today let us fight together, there will be other opportunities to engage eachother, times when a mandalorian uprising is not on the horizon. Starhammer out."

With that the rebel fleet moved in to engage the mandalorian fighter support.

GM CLARIFICATION & NOTICE
Ramano: Your damage formula is correct, but the calculations are wrong. Bulk Cruisers are UCR3, which means your Damage Modifier would've been 3/5 or x0.6 - please modify your post and update your attacks, since you'll be dishing out alot more damage now.
