Uh saw the trailer. The guy playing Han... yeah no. That doesn't work at all. I'm sad.

You sound like a snobby hipster Core Dweller!  Don't ruin it for yourself before you've seen it.

I always project myself in to Hans shoes anyways. ;p

Ansel Elgort was apparently the runner-up for the role, not sure if the only nod he got was on account of simply looking the part.
Alden Ehrenreich probably just performed better during the screen test. Doesn't at all look like a young Ford though. Maybe he'll make up for it.

Or maybe they'll can the whole movie and get somebody else with a germanic name and the initials AE to play the part.

I would be lying if this one didn't have me nervous.  Seems like a thing a lot of people didn't ask for.  We just had Hans death.  Production seemed to be very troubled.  Pretty divided fan base over the Last Jedi.

The first trailer had me a little worried.  The next spot made me feel a little better.  I think it is going to be OK.  Not expecting the best SW movie ever.  Not going in expecting the worst movie.  But I do feel a lot of people will be going in with the conceptions and thats going to be a big problem.

Holy shit bro... you've been psyched about this one too.

I haven't seen it yet. Maybe tonight or tomorrow night. Trying to ignore the critics until then, but they have been very loud....

No Big Spoilers, Just General Assessments...

I know!  I went in there psyched and came out trying to convince myself of why it wasn't as bad as it felt initially.

Aldens portrayal of Han was not terrible but it wasn't defining of the character in his own right either.  Even though not all of his acts line up with it, his persona felt somewhat chivalrous and orbiting closer to the hero than the anti/reluctant/downplaying hero or survivor.  I need to see it again before I really commit to a lambasting but it all felt a bit weird.

Lando was sort of underplayed also.  I was looking forward to Donald Glover big time but there's really no single instance I can think of in recollection in which his performance stood out.

I hate to see what we would have got if Ron Howard hadn't taken over.

Chewy helped save some of it.  Woody and Emilia I was not at all sold on.

Part of me feels like the movie should have been something like Casino Royale... James Bond "coming of age" because in his first mission/foray into being a 00-Agent, he learns things the hard way and gets emotionally destroyed by Vesper Lynd. There's that great line in the movie that Bond says to M -- "the job's done and the bitch is dead."

Again, I haven't seen the movie yet, but the trailers portray Han as this happy-go-lucky up-and-coming associate who's about to make partner in the firm. Admittedly, being a "hot shot" is quintessential Han Solo, but there is a reason Han is (for lack of a better phrase) an opportunistic asshole by the time A New Hope rolls around. Every anti-hero has a backstory of getting their heart broken or their dreams crushed. They become hardcore realists (as opposed to idealists). The line "never tell me the odds" is the most realest thing a realist could say because they're basically saying "f--- the odds."

Saw the movie last night. Checking my expectations at the door was probably the best thing for me to have done, because overall I think the movie was fun and okay (3/5 stars). If Rogue One was a "war movie" set in the Star Wars universe, then Solo was definitely a "heist movie."

Agree that everyone's performance was just sort of "there." The film felt episodic... almost like a high-budget TV show extended pilot.

Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.

I went in expecting this film to not be good so when I came out I was pleasantly surprised. I legit enjoyed the film and am looking forward to seeing it again.
