A Very Brief History of Galactic City
« on: September 18, 2013, 07:43:35 PM »

Prologue

From the immortalized folklore of the Dha Werda Verda in which the Thirteen Nations of Zhell battled the Taung for generations over sole inheritance of the prehistoric planet, even as a super-volcanic eruption brought cataclysm and the war for a homeworld continued in the shadow of ash, Coruscant endured.

Since the ancient Tionese War, the first known galactic conflict, in which the planet was pummeled with pressure bombs for months straight and entire sectors were demolished to sub-thousandth levels for the first time in eons, the Queen of the Core displayed her regal and withstood.

From the actual factually recorded Duinuogwuin Contention when the monstrous Star Dragons laid waste to the world with their atomic-fire breath, scorching whole swaths of the surface down to actual rock, Galactic City rose like a phoenix.

Through the First Schism, the Alsakan Conflicts, the Hundred Year Darkness, the Great Hyperspace War, the Sith Wars and in more recent memory, the Separatist siege, the palpable breathing fantasy ecumenopolis held strong, unwavering and glimmering bright enough itself in purpose to light the darkness of the galaxy.

With hyperspace coordinates 0.0.0, the first transgalactic paths- the Perlemian Route and Corellian Run share a start point at Coruscant. The focal point and common exchange for culture, trade, community and administration of the galaxy for twenty-five thousand years since the dawn of the Galactic Republic to the reign of the Galactic Empire, the wonder world is an engineering monstrosity and mecca of sentient population unrivaled anywhere in known space.  Over millennia of a constant influx of settlement and growth, the once natural rocky and water covered planet became a densely packed globe spanning city-scape.  The architectural ambitions of the galactic melting pot came to consume the natural surroundings, enveloping mountains, emptying oceans and stretching in to the skies.  It is estimated by anthropologists specializing in the study of the Capitol that around ninety-thousand years ago, it's surface was already completely urbanized with only the frozen polar caps exposed.  Ages later by the time of the Old Republic, even the caps had vanished, succumbing to a more literal sub-urban existence beneath the endless upward urban sprawl.  The world was populated by over one trillion sentient beings and it's upper most levels rose dozens of kilometers high, seeming to nearly reach out in to space while stealing and drowning out all natural sunlight from penetrating beyond the mid levels, creating two starkly contrasting worlds within one.

At the culmination of the Clone Wars, the Republic ceased to exist and became the First Galactic Empire under Senator turned Emperor Sheev Palpatine.  His reign perpetuated by the loyalty and ambition of the Empire's daunting war machine along with the vast structured manipulation of both consensual and unwitting minions.  For nearly three decades the breadth and depth of galactic power was his mere puppet.  Hypnotized, Coruscant bowed before the man-god Palpatine, and the galaxy trembled..

..but as unimaginable as the prospect seemed.. all new gods are destined to go the way of the old ones..
