So recently got Disney+ and of course proceeded to binge Mandalorian S1 and Clone Wars S7.

I was happy to see Mandalorian lean into the Western trope. Reminded me that a lot of people first thought A New Hope was a "Space Western" when it first released. Lots of Clint Eastwood vibes coming from the Mando himself, which speaking of Eastwood movies, RIP to Ennio Morricone (the guy who did the music for those movies recently passed away). But, I was glad to see that they didn't let the trope define the narrative. Lots of mystery with the "Baby Yoda."

This was probably also Jon Favreau's Jewish influence, but I was definitely picking up on the vibe that the Mandalorians are now the SW equivalent of "Holocaust survivors." The comparison of Nazi-stamped Gold and Imperial-stamped Beskar was a little on the nose, but the emphasis of a Creed-driven community and different tribes were also subtle nods to the Jewish people. I liked it.

As for Clone Wars S7... wow! The last four episodes were so well done, I wish they had just rolled them together into a feature film. The final scene with Vader was very fitting, it was as if Vader/Anakin remembered all he had fought for, and lost.

So, with Disney+, I have now watched Star Wars: Clone Wars, Star Wars: Rebels, and the Mandalorian.  Rebels and Clone Wars do have some continuity with regard to Mandalorians and their culture, but the Mandalorian seems to have a very different culture, especially, for example, with regard to the wearing of the helmet.  Supposedly, that was ancient culture of their people, but in the other two, it seemed very different.Thoughts?

The best thing about Season 7 was the Maul vs. Ahsoka duel and the fact that it was all motion capture involving Ray Park:

It's pretty epic and brings it up to the level of the movies. Big thank you to Disney for doing that. One of the best lightsaber duels ever.

The Mando culture in Mandalorian vs. all previous established felt in line enough for me.  Going back to the Ancient Origins, Mandalore was settled by the Tuang who originally inhabited Coruscant but were driven from it by the Human Battalions of Zhell in Pre Republic galactic history.  Dha Werda Verda is the title of an ancient epic/poem that is said to detail this.

The old Mandalorians appear a bit in the TOTJ comics, and they are never pictured without masks/helmets.  The first I'd ever seen Mando's portrayed in any source without a helmet was Clone Wars in the whole Death Watch story I think.


I haven't got a chance to finish CW S7 yet.



I wasn't particularly averse to the Sequel Trilogy, however, I am excited for what the future holds in the swirling rumors of Kathleen Kennedys impending departure/banishment and to see who replaces her.  There's a youtuber by the name of Lord Doomcock who supposedly has some reliability and inside sources, and Jon Favreau is one of the names mentioned as potential successors.  He also talks about the use of the Veil of the Force concept from Rebels being borrowed to use to 'erase' the Sequel Trilogy and offer a new set of OT continuations.
