Mock | Battle of the Winter Moon of Mocha IV

Story
Even though the Trade Federation interrupted the trade agreement talks on Mocha II, and the Imperial Remnant retaliated by invading Mocha III, the New Republic wanted to make sure there would be no more surprises, and so they launched an attack against a known pirate settlement on the Winter Moon of Mocha IV (the gas giant of the Mocha system). Although the Winter Moon is within the habitability zone of the Mocha Star, it has a very slow orbit around Mocha IV and experiences a total eclipse and blackout every rotation. This daily blackout has led to cooler temperatures and a continuous freezing-thawing cycle, hence the name "Winter Moon."

Setup
1. This mock will feature a NR attack force going up against *BRAND NEW* Common ground units, each with 2.0/Beta specs.
2. The 1.0/Beta rules abstracted the ground battle significantly, and so this mock battle will utilize the same format of the Space Grid as the Ground Grid, with H-2 being the Capitol or Headquarters or whatever is story-appropriate.
3. Defer all comments to the "Mocha III Talk" thread (because that one is about the ground aspect of this game).

GROUND COMBAT BASICS

ACTIONS
Move (1 AP)
Evade (2 AP): avoid 2 DMG
Attack (1 AP): deal DMG to enemy target (AR x UCR/UCR)
Special (2 AP): utilize special ability

ATTACK RANGE
Unless otherwise noted, all infantry and Light GAVs have an attack range of 0, Heavy GAVs have an attack range of 1. Heading does not apply to ground units.

NEW REPUBLIC STRIKE FORCE BRICK SQUADRON

"GO! GO! GO!" was all you could hear as a handful of dropships opened their bay doors. Foot soldiers and vehicles began pouring out, assembling into preassigned divisions. The Winter Moon was just about to enter its day cycle, and so the landing zone was still shrouded in darkness. Of course, this was just another drop for Brick Squadron. Day time, night time. It didn't matter.

The commander of Brick Squadron, Colonel Junoz, stood atop his AT-TE (nicknamed the "Brickhouse") with a multi-spectral imaging device raised to his eyes.

From within the Brickhouse, one of his lieutenants was shouting to Junoz. "Sir, it appears the pirates have repurposed an old Trade Federation Core Ship. It's covered in ice, but it's there alright, 5 kilometers ahead."

Junoz responded, "I see it. Bastards probably have some droids with them too."

"Sir, we were expecting minimal resistance - standard shoot and sweep. We should signal the fleet and ask for reinforcements."

"By the time they get here we're going to be dealing with a night cycle and intense cold. We can't wait. Signal the attack. Horn formation," ordered the Colonel, as he climbed down the Brickhouse hatch, sealing it.

"Dammit, we've been exposed," replied Captain Kaffe, the pirate leader who as of days ago had also been leading his double-life as an Imperial ship captain at the Battle of Mocha II. "We're gonna have to make a run for it."

"But Kaffe, it'll take hours to power up the ship engines," replied one of his Weequay lieutenants.

"Well, we've been preparing for this eventuality. Have the boys activate the droids and back them up with the skiffs. If we can't make it out in time, we can always get out with our starfighters."

"You got it boss."

(Note: Final post. Action is abridged. This post features SF specs that have yet to be disclosed.)

NEW REPUBLIC STRIKE FORCE BRICK SQUADRON

The strike force took a beating, but they were positioned well for a two-pronged attack against the pirate forces. Fortunately for Brick Squadron, their starfighter escort had finally decided to show up.

"Colonel, I got X-Wings and Y-Wings on comms, they're standing by for orders," prompted Junoz.

"Hit those skiffs!"

Junoz nodded, then spoke into the transmitter, "Red Leader, Gold Leader, you are cleared for an attack run. Sending you the coordinates now."

Meanwhile in low orbit...

< This is Red Leader. Roger that Brickhouse. We are beginning our attack run. All units, lock S-foils in attack position. Engage all targets of opportunity, but let's keep those bombers safe. >

ACTION SUMMARY
1. X-Wing Red 1 began its attack run (-2 AP each). (Moved from H-2 to Ground Battle Zone)
2. X-Wing Red 1 attacked Skiff 1 (-2 AP). 10 x (6/6 UCR) = 10 DMG {Skiff 1 DESTROYED}
3. Y-Wing Gold 1 began its bombing run (-2 AP) and bombed Skiff 2 for 30 DMG. {Skiff 2 DESTROYED}
4. Y-Wing Gold 1 also bombed (-2 AP) Skiff 3 for 30 DMG. {Skiff 3 DESTROYED}


PIRATE FORCE KAFFE's CREW

As red bolts of energy and proton bombs began raining down from the sky, it was clear the New Republic was eventually going to win this battle. Captain Kaffe signaled the retreat.

"Roll out the artillery! Let's see if we can't pick off a few of those fighters on our way back to the ship!"

ACTION SUMMARY
1. Pirate Force magically deploys 2 Light Artillery Wagons.
2. LAW 1 attacked X-Wing 1 (-3 AP), 24 x (5/6 UCR) = 20 DMG {X-Wing DESTROYED}
