An original human home planet in the Ringali Shell, Chandrila was a serene world of rolling grassy plains, lush green forests and calm shallow seas long known as a center of political enlightenment and as a major agricultural exporter to the Core. As a culture Chandrilans had long been committed to peaceful and revered existence of their natural surroundings, leading most of the planets population to settle in smaller rural communities rather than large metropolises. During the reign of Emperor Palpatine, the democractic Chandrilan House maintained at least superficial legislative domain over the planet while the governing Moff ruled from their fortress on the outskirts of the Capital city Hanna. After the Imperial Senate was disbanded, the local Imperial Garrison was reinforced and the Chandrilan House placed under direct Imperial oversight after then Imperial Senator Omonda, Mothma's successor after her resignation, publicly criticized the disbanding. General public resistance to Imperial reign intensified. The Empire never fully occupied Chandrila and in the months prior to the Battle of Endor, a small additional Imperial invasion force was deployed and defeated in battle by a Rebel Army. Had the Second Death Star not been destroyed, Chandrila and Mon Calamari were it's immediate targets, to join Alderaan in the fate of those worlds who would oppose the Emperors will.
In the initial months after the Battle of Endor, there was no Imperial ground presence on Chandrila because of its limited overall strategic value, only Star Destroyers in orbit enforcing blockade. The local government allied itself with the New Republic and with the eventual arrival of a liberating fleet from Mon Calamari, became the Capital of the New Republic and home to the newly reformed Galactic Senate.
