Still alive
« on: April 06, 2016, 10:27:25 AM »
Thunder echoed off the debris as the first drops of rainfall touched the dust of a ten-year drought, the first sign of life for a long-forgotten, nearly deserted planet. Then came the eerie silence of winds that refused to blow and rain that fell, muffled, upon the thirsty ground.

He awoke, groggily shaking off the heavy stones from his back and wiping the grit from his eye. He rose slowly to one knee, testing his weight; his muscles proved atrophied but capable as he successfully stood once more. Looking to the horizon, he saw the first rays of sunlight falling impotently upon an endless gray plain pocked with charred and cracked rock strewn haphazardly about. He surmised that the debris might have been the result of an explosion or battle, and his own role one of heroism, villainy, or perhaps even total irrelevance...

If he could remember where (or even when) he was.

He shrugged, as he had each time he emerged from one of the hundreds of bacta tanks or workshops, part of a short ritual he used as a brief respite from the knowledge that every original part had been replaced multiple times by now, and yet he - whatever he was - still remained alive.

"Tthe past is better left forgotten," he whispered to himself as he always did, and set off toward the sunlight.

--------------
But OOC, I remember. And I have the rulesets and records to pass on if anyone wants them, for the internet never forgets.

Good to see that the forum still exists! I had no doubt that some people were still involved, just was not sure where.

As mentioned, I have some old files I was going through when I came across some rulesets (igepack and others), sim rosters. Also a few random and probably inconsequential posts from battles. All of which made me curious as to what everyone was up to.

I also checked fb group and Twitter, as well as directly contacting the people I know on fb about it. Remains to be seen if anyone wants the files or to converse. With new movies being released it seemed a good a time as any.

Hope you're all well out there!

There has been an awakening.  Have you felt it?

Hale is always working on some battle systems and trying to find appealing ways to revive the old galactic power struggle sim.  Part of issue is finding ways to make it as appealing as the tactical/strategy of Armada and X-wing, the other part is long term dedication.  The Nostalgia alone tends to fade rapidly once the Uni is established, problem being if attempts to modernize it grow too complex it also kills participation and long term commitment.  In the era of MMORPGs and FFG table tops it's a tough niche to carve out.  Granted never not worth trying =)

Hmmm.

I think the first step would be to get people back on the forum here. Get them here to chat about Star Wars, share their thoughts, etc. Once we develop a community here chatting we can then try to get simming back up and running.

I created the twitter however it is hard to grow a twitter.

Anyone have any thoughts on how to reconnect with this crowd?

I've tried posting in The Jedi Council Forums or on Reddit to no luck.

I want to see this forum grow but to do that means content. We need to chat more about Star Wars. If we do that and grow out the forum we can get simming back to something fun.

I know a few.

Remained mostly in contact with three people, can potentially contact another three, possibly four. All from the AOL days.

Now, some of them know others. Get momentum and that could cascade down to many people. Just a matter of a) getting them to check in and b) having a reason to return, which was why I put the post into the OOC thread earlier.

I did find some old Ige documents if anyone has interest in hosting them.

Let's start with that.

Let's contact people we know and get them back involved in the forum in some way/shape/form. Even if it is just to chat and talk about Star Wars.

Have them get their friends involved. Even if it isn't just SWSF people but people who like Star Wars.

I'd think if there is something actively going on or in the immediate future, you stand a better chance at keeping people coming back.

With the force awakens just out on DVD you really can't have better timing.

I agree whole heartedly.

So this is two fold.

One we need to start placing stuff on here that is discussion based for things and two we need to start sending people here.

You have to Message Hop directly I believe, we were getting lots of Spam Registers.  Hence the membership list purge as well when we retained only known individuals active within past couple years.

Hop laid it out in this thread.  It may take him a day or two to get back I'm not sure, but I presume that is still the method and we've had a few new registrees since then?
