With little else to do, the Dreadstar Pirates made a final dash for the finish line as the whole fleet moved to Low Orbit, hoping to rake up what muck was left to claim the system!

     The small force of system defenders turned back towards their tiny backwater homeworld and drove head on in to the fray, engaging cruisers much larger, though not as nimble.

Commander Caerbannog

The fleet continued to take a pounding, but the battle was already won. At this point, there was no way for Caerbannog to lose. Anthrax fired a final salvo before being disabled, leaving just enough structure on the Dreadstar One for the A-9's to clean up. The CSP was engaged and obliterated by the F-1's, allowing the A-9's to slip through and finish off the cruiser. Recognizing that the newly arrived fleet was far too late and far away to be a major player for the hill, Caerbannog ordered Arrrggghhh to target the closest frigate of another force. Her turbolasers were followed by yet another group of F-1's, who drove against the shields of the Kuati frigate until they shattered. The crown was his for the taking!

In a shocking turn of events, the Dreadstar Pirate Fleet blows up mysteriously after having apparently trying to enter hyperspace but catching a massive and unexpected gravity shadow. =)

Nefertiti watched the incoming fighters engage the Firespray-class Patrol Ships.  It was going to be nasty, but ... wait, what just happened?  The communications channels all filled with static and time seemed to slow....   When all returned to normal, her patrol ships were vaporized and she their attackers well out of range...  This must be some kind of new weapon, this was not a good sign, she must capture it!

"Take us into low orbit.  Full bombardment of those ships!"

DEAD OR ALIVE
This challenge is OPEN, effectively immediately, and will run for 10 days. THERE ARE SOME NEW COMBAT RULES WE WISH TO TEST OUT, SO PLEASE READ BELOW FOR DETAILS!

Rules
1. Players will utilize COMMON TECHNOLOGY only for this challenge.
2. Player Fleets are limited to 3000 Command Points.
3. All Fleets will exit in a Deep Space Zone to start out.
4. Players will get 1 DOA Point for every 1 Command Point they kill/destroy.
5. On August 22nd, Players will also get 1 DOA Point for every 1 Command Point in their own fleet that is still operational.
6. The player with the most DOA Points by August 22st wins.

New Combat Mechanics
ALL Capital Ships now have this new ability to boost their combat performance by utilizing Systems Points to transfer energy into various sub-systems or operations. Capital Ships can utilize 1 BOOST each round, and each Boost costs 10% (rounded up) of your Ship's Systems Points. Here is a list of the following System Boosts:
1. WEAPONS = Boosts weapon damage by 10% (round down).
2. RECHARGE SHIELDS = Immediately restores 5% of your total shields.
3. DAMAGE CONTROL = Immediately repairs 5% of your Hull (first) and Armor (second).
4. COMBAT LAUNCH = Deploy twice the number of craft your Launch Bays normally do.
5. ENGINES = Move 1 more additional grid.
6. ENTER HYPERSPACE = Immediately enter hyperspace.

Other Rules
1. The number of starfighters/AUX that can accompany a ship into hyperspace is equal to the number of SF/AUX that capital ship can launch (via Launch Bays). Capital ships cannot travel with everything ALL OUT all the time.

Kinda figured you'd 'fix' that.  :D  ...which is why I went ahead and used it in the trial instead of 'saving' it for after the game started.

I assume this is 10% of your max, not 10% remaining.

It means, if you have 400 system points, and you boost weapons, you use 40 of the points to do it, and you now have 360 system points.

Do you mean, what happens if i have 200/400 system points? Then yes, its still 40 points to do an action :)

I assume this is 10% of your max, not 10% remaining.

It means, if you have 400 system points, and you boost weapons, you use 40 of the points to do it, and you now have 360 system points.

Do you mean, what happens if i have 200/400 system points? Then yes, its still 40 points to do an action :)

I mean, if I have 400 system points and I use one of the abilities, and I get to 360, do I use 36 or 40 for the next?  And the question was answered, 40. :)  Figured it was that way, but wanted to clarify.
