I have the first three and recently bought Mercy Kill but haven't read any of the ones in between (or Mercy Kill yet) except maybe The Bacta War, I can't remember. I like the first three by Michael A. Stackpole a lot, but haven't read any of Aaron's yet. What do you like about them?

Sorry! Missed your last post.

Not sure. They just have a better flow I guess? A good use of humour, don't seem QUITE as adolescent as Stackpole's tend to feel to me. Though of course, every woman is startlingly beautiful and fit, which reeks a bit of teenage fantasy! But that's fine by me. The books are fun and innocent. I think I'm also a fan because Wraith Squadron gets into some TIE Interceptors and stuff, which is a cool thing. Are there any novels around TIE pilots?

No. They need to give us new EU\Legends books. People would love them as long as they had the right concept, same tone as the rest of the EU\Legends books, and returned to focusing on story. (Wish they would go back to "painting" covers like the covers of the Thrawn trilogy, Jedi Academy trilogy, etc.) Here are a few I would like to see (in addition to new X-Wing novels):

1) An entire TIE Fighter series, just like the X-Wing series. And even though it's called TIE Fighter you could of course bring in TIE Interceptors, TIE Bombers, TIE Advanced, TIE Defender, TIE Phantom, etc. After you've done enough of those, you could keep it going with an X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter series (duh).

2) Novelizations of the Dark Empire comics, so we can read about Luke's temporary turn to the dark side in trade paperback. This would be a #1 hit.

3) Capitalize on the Armada brand and do NR and IR series just like X-Wing (and TIE Fighter above) except for the capital ships, maybe similar to the Black Fleet Crisis trilogy and the Thrawn trilogy but even more focused on the "armada stuff." Or at least a trilogy.

4) A trilogy centered around Kyle Katarn and Luke Skywalker set not long after the establishment of the new Jedi Academy.

After reading Wraith Squadron and Iron Fist, I took a break and decided to pick up Shadows of the Empire. I'm about 25% into it and just... don't care for it much at all? :-\

However, I'm finally narrowing down what I enjoy (generally) in books and writing and its Action/Adventure. Hence, the X-Wing books (esp by Aaron Allston) are fun. Thrawn trilogy as well, lots of adventure spurring one thing into the next, big battles, intrigue, etc.

So, I of course started re-reading Heir to the Empire today instead :D

I think I'll jump back to Solo Command (third in the Wraith series of x-wing stories) after Heir to the Empire, then jump back to Dark Force Rising, and then back to another X-Wing, for the foreseeable future. 8-)

I read the full sample from Amazon for Jedi Search (the 1st book in the trilogy) but I wasn't on fire for it. I will read them eventually because I want to write some jedi/force stuff and just want to see how Kevin Anderson/SW EU handles that stuff generally speaking.

Picked up Thrawn (Timothy Zahn). Not bad so far. Not as good as the Thrawn trilogy and Duology, either. Yet, anyway.

I agree and love the X-Wing books.  They suffer a little from being kind of short and designed for you to buy more books to finish the story thing.. but... that is just how it is.

The OG Thrawn trilogy will always be my best choice.  I enjoy it once a year at least.

The new Thrawn books are good.  But... not as magically in my opinion.  Hard to do because they tend to totally tunnel on Thrawn and his clique and don't have that Rebel story, Imperial story, and then the side stories that all eventually come together thing going for it.

One of my favorite books that stands alone is Darth Plagueis.  It had me wondering why.... why.. this wasn't Episode 1... :p

I too re-read that trilogy every year :D

Darth Plagueis I have read a sample of. I may pick it up next.

EDIT: I also agree with your analysis re OG Thrawn vs New Thrawn. The original has the magic of the original trilogy, IMO, the way the stories shift and he also captures Luke/Leia/Han Solo perfectly in prose. THat book is almost ENTIRELY dialogue, the result being very cinematic, etc... great trilogy!

Yeah it is hard to REALLY put the finger on it but you are right.  The "non-cannon" Thrawn really felt connected to the original trilogy and the story was told in a very similar way.  It doesn't mean I didn't like the new Thrawn books.  The first one was an interesting "how it came up" in the Empire which was refreshing and interesting and clearly was designed to feed into Rebels as it was on TV at the time.  The second one was pretty much a mission him and Vader went on with some flashback stuff which was ok and I enjoyed it but it felt very much like a setup for other things in the universe to come and Thrawn and Vader ended up being the "draw" to it so to say.  It also, again, tied into Rebels to feed into that narrative.  I wouldn't doubt if the next Thrawn book actually concludes that Rebels narrative with Ezra and Thrawn lost in Thrawns old back yard in the unknown regions and facing off with the "enemy" that was touched on in book 2 using Ezra to do what Vader did, and then also hooking up with Thrawns buddy from the first book bringing it all together.  If it goes there I think it would be the first book in this line that would be able to do its "own thing" instead of being jailed in by other cannon events all around it.  But who knows right?

Picked up "Conspirata" by Robert Harris. Read book 1 (Imperium) and it was good. Read 25% of this book last night after buying it so I guess it is pretty good as well! Political intrigue in ancient Rome! Recommended.

Going to probably go back to Dark Force Rising after this one, then I'll probably try something totally new, maybe Luceno or the Jedi Search trilogy...

The Jedi Academy trilogy and the Black Fleet Crisis trilogy are excellent. Not really into the new universe. Just the original EU.
