Im seriously annoyed that March Madness is off.  Now wtf am I supposed to watch while I'm drinking to fend off the virus?  This is all Europes fault. :P

But don't worry Greg, the big guy has got this covered.  Did the totally perfect Oval Office and Rose Garden addresses not put you at ease?

Don't get me started on the moron's handling of this entire thing.

Hope everyone is taking the social distancing seriously and not going out unless for food or medicine.

Be safe folks.

I am working from home. Plan on funneling my massive levels of anxiety in to star wars at some point but haven't been able to sit down and read anything lately besides news and twitter. :(

The data on the virus is pretty staggering. I'm self quarantining as much as possible.

Looking forward to playing a lot of Sabacc with family this weekend.

Something like 176% growth overnight nation wide.  Government restaurant shut downs, sports at every level shut down, economic melt downs, united auto workers shut down, every supplier shut down, any place that works with people shut down, stock free falls, government lockdowns, schools closed until next year, grocery store shelves ransacked, national guards being called up.  Shits the start of a movie.  I dont know how they didn't think it was going to sweep across the country given the open range culture of american lifestyles and vast interstate and international trade networks.  We've never lived through anything like thsis.  I guess its better than an asteroid or nuclear war.  But stay healthy yousall.

They just announced on the local news that hospitals ask if you believe you have been infected, not to go to the ER but to call a hotline for instructions.  Governments about to be even bringing you your food to your porch from now on for awhile.

Whats absurd is that they still wont test you if you havent traveled internationally or been in contact with someone confirmed to be sick with it.

My fucking job still wont close. Even though there is stupid motherfuckers that come in here SICK and wont go home or be sent home, they still wont close. Plus our town in under a STAY AT HOME ORDER and still wont close. Luckily though, fuck every one else, i was just informed this morning that Starting Sat i should be able to start working from home!

Michigan went under State Ordered Shelter in Place yesterday per Governors Orders. My job falls under Essential Operations as part of the construction/infrastructure industry so we are still working.  There's 3 of us in the lab and we've been rotating 1 person a day for passed 2 weeks.

So far the family is all good here, hope same with all yours!

Been getting house shit done though, banging out Netflix Watchlist and laying waste to ancient china in Total War Three Kingdoms.

I should be writing more though!!!!!!! arrrrrgggghhhhh!!

Stay safe and diligent.  Still a long way to go with this thing.

I've been at home for 2 weeks about, this is the third week. This is all stressful as hell, but culling my twitter and news consumption the last days has been a huge improvement. But still. I haven't been able to get into my star wars novels at all, just can't get into the mindspace for reading fiction. Instead I've been fucking around with old computers and code related shit.

I really DO need to start writing, though. Maybe tonight I'll take the plunge.

Write!

This shit is bananas. We're both working from home (grateful to be able to do so) and although it sucks, I'd rather hunker down for a few weeks rather than kiss the rest of the year goodbye. However, seeing as literally no one can listen to very simple instructions, that is looking less likely.

I'll be in and out, getting a master's online so that does take a considerable amount of time, but will always make time for a little Holodramz.

I'm teleworking 4 days a week, and our office is rotating having 1 person go in each day to man the desk.

At home, my daughter is tele-schooling ("distance learning" is apparently the correct term), so that has been ... an experience.

Hope everyone stays healthy.

Looks like one of the guys I work with has COVID. Hasn't tested but his doctor is pretty sure that's what he got. ~5 days ago had 2 days of bad flu/fever. Last 3 days no fever and feels better but its more difficult to breathe. He has asthma, as I do.

Not too bad here. Just been working from home now almost 2 weeks. My job finally decided to send 99% of us home. Myself and 1 of my supervisors were the first ones to be sent home from my department. So here I am, Ar home, at my desk, working in a wife beater and boxers lol

I miss this place.

I am an Assistant Chief of EMS in Northern NJ.

This is not fun. This is not good by any stretch.

I am not going to get into the gory details of what is going on but its as close to any civilian will ever get to a war zone. Rules are out the window. Standards of care are out the window. Hospitals are full. Don't get sick from something unrelated!

We are keeping our spirits up and getting fat (SO MUCH FOOD DONATED).

I will be honest. I can't see how we get through this without seeing:
1.) Spike in cancer due to cleaning products not meant for prolonged exposure. I am utilizing a viruicide in a LEAF BLOWER to kill this stuff. Everyone says it is safe but remember, the air was safe to breath on 911.
2.) You will see a spike in mental health/substance abuse problems in healthcare providers/EMS after this. How can you not? We are going on minimal sleep, going on more cardiac arrests/etc. It will get to us. We will start to make mistakes (my state has given all healthcare providers immunity from lawsuits except for GROSS negligence due to the statement that we are all acting in good faith at this point)
3.) After this is done EMS better get pay parity regardless if we are municipal based/etc. A similar position in my area of the country for FD gets 140K+ benefits. I make 54K+ benefits. So don't "thank" me. Make sure that I get the same respect and treatment as other first responders.

The Mile High is managing but mostly because they reversed the decision that liquor stores and pot shops are essential businesses within hours of the mandate. Otherwise, these yahoo's would burn this city to the ground. We are both at home, safe and grateful, but increasingly concerned for those who are not. The lack of a cohesive federal plan through this is beyond disturbing although our governor is more than capable at the local level. So, we stay put. Glad we do not have kids but have mad respect for the parents balancing remote work with remote education. Jesus. I cannot even imagine. Also, we have managed not to a) watch Tiger King, b) join TikTok, or c) play Animal Crossing. I would tout our resilience but in all likelihood, it is part of a gradual mental decline as a result of collective anxiety of our current existence. I suppose we will see.

I heard from a regional sales dude on a conference call yesterday that you can't buy liquor in Pennsylvania because it's only sold at specialized state stores that aren't Essential. :o    Thats pretty far out.  Related- I saw a dude at the grocery store this morning with a cart full of only 5 cases of Labatt.

My grower buddy works at a Dispensary and he's been working 7 days a week full days to keep up with delivery demand.

I just got called back to work at the ole material testing lab for 2 days a week to do nothing for the sake of a VP feeling like we aren't still getting paid to sit at home, so now I'll be getting paid to sit at my desk with a mask and gloves on.  At least I won't have to listen to day time tv down the hall.  But Im considering just parking my car and ubering back to the house, the brass is at home so they will never know!

I been knocking out the spring yard work and logging hours by the dozen of Total War and Uboat.  All healthy in my household and family but Detroit area as a whole is still a viral hotbed.  The funeral homes and morgues are flush to the point that hospitals are forced to contract mobile refrigeration units to store the deceased.

Stay alive and healthy. May the Force be with yousall!

How is everyone holding up?

We are doing all right in New England. Managed to stay in empty houses of relatives for a month in July-August to give the kids some space to run and easier access to the sun and outdoors. It was nice and I also took some long overdue vacation time to unwind a bit.

During vacation I have become interested in UFO/UAP/"The Phenomenon" and have been reading some books related for fun. Contemplating consciousness lately, and the fact that we essentially live within a theater of the mind... our senses take in millions of bits of data per second, our unconscious edits this down to about 40 bits/second, essentially a sort of editor playing a film. It makes its cuts based on our past, prejudices, and of course genetics for survival. This is why we have all these "Blind Spots". I've been dwelling on this a lot lately... and it's been good.

I am loaded at work as well, that hasn't changed and I am grateful for my job and that our company is staying busy and profitable.

I still want to write or play a game here. I need to just DO IT for once. I know!
Title: Re: COVID19
Post by: SWSF Eidolon on August 19, 2020, 10:47:13 PM

All matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream and we are the imagination of ourselves.

But all is well here!  The new normal of life goes on.  I am almost done with Trailer Park Boys.  I have mixed feelings about it, but the Sebastian Bach model train convention episode is totally worth the time to get there.

I really dont give UFOs much thought just because it seems like an obvious truth to me.  The only mystery is why they care about a planet full of mindless shaved apes.  There has to be something more interesting out there.  One plausible explanation for this is that they are time travelers..

This reminds me, I need to catch Rick and Morty Season 3 somewheres soon..

Social life on the critical list, masters program two weeks from completion, final interview for a new job next week, really into houseplants apparently, haven't killed IT-Guy. So, surprisingly well given the anxiety such upheaval has caused. As it was nearly twelve years ago with my last major life trauma, the forum has given me a creative outlet to work through some of the turmoil by getting lost in these characters and storylines. Even though my "Holodrama Wednesday" pace will obviously not be sustainable if I land this role, I highly recommend diving in with your own contribution, whatever that looks like. It really does help.

Peace & love my SWSF fam.

sigh. I want to write something. the urge wells up in me, I even sit down at some point and start to go... but lose the thread and the steam and the motivation quickly. I get excited about the ideas I generate, but then to write them they feel... off.

Part of the problem is I am a slow writer. I write and rewrite a lot in the process of figuring out what I am trying to say. But, as this draws out, I lose motivation and I also start to feel like what I am writing is shit and just walk away.

Eventually, I'll land on something. I guess that is why I liked games. Since with games, you could write when you felt something but had something else to keep momentum going.

Well you entirely missed Severus' return.  Besides that the usual, we started about a uni a year and went for a few posts each and then fizzle flatline.  Except Hop who posted a lot about posting throughout.  I keed, I love you Greg :-*

I love all you dudes and dudettes.

I dunno about Hop and Hale but I've come to the realization that I need some Ramano in SWSF life to keep it moving, besides Syrens exemplary dedication to her Saga.

Make some time and post from your phone.  Hales launching a uni very soon that's Outer Rim focused and more about one squad of character units and their small ships and either up to no good or trying to prevent no good. (from a certain point of view, a certain point of view?).  You should consider trying to get some time here and there to get involved.  You can basically play the angle so that you are Imperial or NR but is written toward fringe/contracts.  But like how the Wagner group "isn't!" part of the Russian Security/Intelligence Apparatus.

Ooohhh! Interesting. So you are looking for a Garm Bel Iblis type character? Just my type!

But yeah, currently working 3 jobs and going through a divorce after 17yrs and 3 kids, 2 cars, and a house. Time is..  not friendly right now. To be honest i was looking for a copy of the old SWSF Warbook. I was going to attempt to adapt it into a tabletop RPG for my kids and a few friends of mine. Saw the place was still here on the search and thought what the hell. Im sure ALL of them wont scream at me. Lol Speaking of which i apologize for btw. I was a real dick in my younger years. Lot of you didnt deserve the BS i put you through.

But i will see what i can do for time. No promises as i dont even own a computer anymore. Not sure how i feel making a post like that on my phone. Stranger things have happened. A lot lately.

Oh, I never disliked you nearly as much as you thought.  I was just the moderator at the time and you  ... well, you needed to be moderated.

That was ages ago of course.  I mean, that was before I had kids, and my oldest is 7.  I think I was still paralegaling, before law school, so we are talking back in 2009.
I've also learned that things I used to care about ALOT, like that REALLY, REALLY mattered, actually don't.  So I'm ok saying let's leave the past in the past.  As is, back then, I was the highest poster on the forum.  These days, I'm lucky if I get one substantive post a week (and oddly, working from home has given me just enough time to start up again, and not leave Syren writing her epic solo).  If I want to trade barbs with anyone, it's not here.

Ramano, the old war books I have are still here: http://www.swsfonline.com/warbooks/

Dementat hasn't been around here in many years.

My goal is to be active in this new RPG-slanted thing that Hale is putting together, or possibly to embark on something like the Syren/Medvih saga that is my own... I don't know. I need some Star Wars and some creativity in my life, but I am also pretty tight in terms of time -- not a good excuse, mostly I am just organized and paralyzed when it comes to getting started writing something... but I am working on it (as always) and continuing to post about the possibility of posting.

I think you should just become an author, Syren. Gonna spend all that time writing you might as well get paid for it. Personally i dont have the creativity for it. Im better at simple number crunching.

I could, given the amount of material I have amassed over the last decade but author means deadlines and I already have enough of those. Besides, this is a therapeutic outlet where the socialite slasher space soap opera drama must flow.

Speaking of, anyone catch the Dune trailer? Shiiiit.
Title: Re: COVID19
Post by: SWSF Eidolon on September 11, 2020, 06:46:03 PM
I just saw it last night. Looks awesome.  Original Dune was great but there was a rarely glimpsed narrated version that was so much cooler becuase of all the info it gave and I never owned that only saw it once when it was airing on SciFi back in the day.

I've seen Chalamet in a movie as Henry V that was decent.  I have one gripe though-  the burning hand box in the original was cooler than the one they showed in this one.  Isaac playing Leto not my fav choice but will see.

I got a little gitty when he gives you the classic 'fear is the mind killer' line.  1st Fear Factory album.

The trailer said only in theaters though..

So be like George Martin and tell them you'll write when you feel like it. Just dont sell your shit to HBO lol.

They are remaking Dune again? Ive never watched the original all the way through. I mean ive seen it all. Just part here and part there. Didnt watch the series. Wouldnt actually call myself a fan of it. The old game on the ps1 wasnt bad though.

After the 5th I am eligible for vaccination here in MA. Then the my wife after the 19th. My parents have already had both doeses, I believe, in upstate NY.

Not sure why we've had to wait so long here, but overall the vaccination rate seems pretty high around where are in Boston?

I'm a bit worried with the variant coming out of Brazil, however, that is apparently not really stopped by the vaccines...
