Disney is out of touch is if they think legal ownership of intellectual property and some executive's signature on a piece of paper gives them the right to declare the Thrawn trilogy non-canon. It's one thing to say there are now two Star Wars universes; it is something else entirely to declare the original EU non-canon and slap these "Legends" labels on every good Star Wars book ever written.
At first I was thinking we should refer to them as the SWEU (Star Wars Expanded Universe) and SWCU (Star Wars Cinematic Universe), but with the number books coming out for the latter, it has already become an "EU" in its own right... just a different EU.
I propose the following solution: two Star Wars universes, EU1 (original) and EU2 (new), and we never mention the word "Legends" again except to explain things to someone who isn't using the EU1/EU2 terminology yet.

How is calling it EU1 and EU2 different than Legends?
You have to look at it from the perspective of new blood coming in. You don't want to confuse the new people with "Hey check out EU 1 and EU 2" No instead you want to say "These were the old Cannon, we now call them Legends. New cannon is our EU"

Disney calls the original EU "Legends" for a reason... Not because there is a second Star Wars universe called the Legends universe but because there a single Star Wars universe and those other stories are just legends. As far as Disney is concerned, there aren't two universes each with their own canon--there's a single Star Wars universe and anything with the "Legends" label is non-canon. That's bogus.
Also, you have to have a way of referring to the new universe other than "the new Star Wars universe". You could call it the EU, except people will inevitably ask which EU, the new one or the old one? EU1 \ EU2 is clear.
