Title: Travel
Post by: RanesDsane on January 01, 2018, 08:51:39 AM
Seeking clarification/confirmation:

Etti IV -> Bonadan via Yellow Route = 48 hours (2)
Bonadan -> "Juncture" via Green Route = 72 hours (3)
 -- 3 Region Borders = 72 hours (3)
"Juncture" -> Myrkyr via Yellow Route = 48 hours (2)

So...if I'm calculating this right, to Travel from Etti to Myrkyr would take me 10 days?

Tynna would be 5 additional days (5 more blue borders crossed on the green route)?

I think we should truncate travel a little bit and simplify.

-Greens are Interstate Freeways.  You can travel from one end of galaxy to other on a green fairly quickly, time starts adding up once you get to yellows.  Traveling from ANY Green located planet to another is only 48hrs.  UNLESS youre traveling to an adjacent world from Green to Green, in which case it is only 24hrs.  So you could move from Bonadan to Eriadu in 48hrs if you want because you'd never have to get off the Freeway so to speak.  Roche to Coruscant, 48hrs.  Brentaal to Sluis Van 48hrs.  Possessing worlds on major Green Routes then becomes very strategically important to logistics.  Sluis to Eriadu 24hrs.  Corulag to Chandrila 24hrs.

-No added time for crossing Rim borders

-Each segment of Yellow stretch adds 24hrs itself.  These are rural one lane highways.  If you're only going from one town to the next over its pretty quick, but really adds up when you start getting deep.

  Along this system then..

Bastion to Coruscant, 5 days via shortest route (Bastion to Dantooine yellow 24, Dan to Dathomir yellow 24, Dath to Bandomeer yellow 24, Bando to Coruscant Green 48)

So by this system calculating Bonadan to Tynna.. it is 3 days.  48hrs for starting at Bonadan on Green and moving along green whole way until you get to that yellow line splitting off to Tynna, which adds 24hrs itself.

I think this works decent but just my suggest to curb travel times a little and help everyone out some.

NO. Long travel times serve a purpose in balancing the “real time” of battle and the “real time” of the greater galaxy. Long travel times prevents purposeless travel, slows repsonse time if reinforcements and reduced their range, etc.

There is no reason why we need to travel across the galaxy in 24hs. Ours is a slow turnbased game.

  Okie dokie.

If get chance Greg please move this travel query thread to under the Hyperspace thread in rules for future reference for us all to see that it was discussed.  I don't have mod powers of that level!

I assume I was right in my original.

Yes, I counted 10 days from Etti to Myrkr

Also got 15 days from Etti to Tynna

Mon Cal to Chandrila 14 days, Bastion to Coruscant 14 days.

I think its a bit long as well on current scales but we see how it plays out, could just help the overhead strategy.  If adjustment is necessary eventually not a big deal to adjust and compensate any one sided feelings.

Any world/region caught with pants down and reinforcements too far is going to see battles conclude before any help arrives at current designs I'd imagine so we just all have to be sure to spread those starting ships out.  Part of the planet selection use and holdings of NR/GE were set up to establish separate sort of Theaters of Conflict. i.e. one along the Rimma Route and one around the Northern Core to create pockets.  So hopefully it all goes hand in hand.

THats the idea, unit positioning is given more signifigance. If we can cross the galaxy in the span of a single post round we might as well have instant travel anywhere.

I don't necessarily have any issue with the way it is for now (we'll see how it plays out).  Just making sure that I'm calculating the travel times correctly.  Thanks.

Might I propose a modest travel discount between systems you control? If you're traveling within your own space, military hyperspace lanes known only to the faction can probably allow for some degree of optimization.

I was thinking something along the lines of -12 hours per leg. Nothing huge, but sensible enough to convey a faction having a "home turf."

Maybe I'm not thinking right atm (usually not), but I feel like it could possibly benefit IR too much in that all your worlds are already interconnected.  While you're not exactly optimized for travel on green routes, it's easy to post ships at a centralized location and respond to any of your worlds with haste already since you've got a few worlds with 5 yellow lanes running to and from them

..though I guess its moot since everyones travel time gets shorter from owned to owned world.

I think it benefits anyone who has a cluster of connected systems. It also could create an artificial demand for otherwise less-valuable systems simply because they could boost travel time by being a connector. I guess, if we're being cynical, I would benefit the most from this proposal... but I was just thinking of a way it could knock a day or two off travel times in general without making drastic changes to the current system.

Let's add it to the ideas list, and revisit in 3 months and see if we wanna do it.

Do we have the Hyperspace Logger Application?
